Heading into the holidays the Georgetown club is in great shape. There are some people that have been putting in a lot of work behind the scenes,so let's take this opportunity to recognize a few of them:
Jim Wilson has really kicked it into high gear. He is the chairman of speech and hearing at both the club and district level. As noted in the September news letter, he recently negotiated a deal between our club and Round Rock that will mean that the Williamson County Circle of Care will have 3 Euroscans for their program. Jim has now turned his attention to the Texas Mission Of Mercy (which will from this point be known as TMOM) scheduled for November 10 and 11 at the Dell Diamond. He has arranged for audiologists and hearing professionals to perform screening for hearing loss AND he will be having SAFEEARS presentations for each group of 25 people that is brought through the process. These are, literally, heroic efforts for our community. Jim has spent many hours defining and achieving his goals.
Pat and Mike Cook, the same Pat and Mike Cook that worked so hard on the Red Poppy bike ride, are in the final stages of designing the sponsorship brochure. This is something we have needed to revise for quite some time and they have done a great job.
Russel Dutkiewicz has dedicated himself to inspiring all of us to build the club membership. He attended the Fall District Conference in Salado and, acting on what he learned there, is asking each of us to supply him with two names of potential members. His plan is to put together a dinner event with a quality guest speaker and then follow the rules as defined in a new, and proven Sertoma process. This kind of a project requires a lot of hours and plenty of leadership skills and Russ definitely has the resume for that.
Ellen Dutkiewicz is the backbone of the entire club. Whenever something is about to slip through the cracks, Ellen is the one who recognizes it and does whatever it takes to see that it gets done.
When the secretary or the sgt at arms are absent, Ellen does the job. We need to all give her a break and make sure that we do what we are supposed to, when we are supposed to. If we don't, Ellen doesn't say anything, she just takes care of it.
Bill Marsh has delivered the essay contest packets to the schools. This year's theme for the middle schoolers is WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A U.S. CITIZEN, and for the high schoolers it is WHY DO WE NEED A CONSTITUTION WHEN WE HAVE THE ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION?. The essays are due on December 2. Bill puts a lot of thought and time into this program, and this year he plans to have a bunch of worthy participants.
Roger Taylor has revived the flag program and spends many hours managing the whole process. He also volunteered he and Suzie's house for the Christmas party this year. His leadership is apparent in so many of the club's activities.
Obviously, the officers and many more people making a difference in the club and we will talk about them in the months to come.
Don't forget the garage sale on November 18th at the 1st Texas Bank. Ron Heine is chairing the event and I know that he needs a lot of items. Check out the old garage and attic. There are people out there that can hardly wait to aquire your junk.
The Serteens had their Haunted Hayride at San Gabriel Park on October 26. It sounds like it was successful which means it was also a lot of fun.
At our November 9 club meeting, Jim Wilson will be handing out the badges, shirts, etc for the Texas Mission of Mercy. Be sure to be there.
