May 2006

The big news for the month of May was the Red Poppy Bike Rally which was actually held on Saturday, April 29. This event is only in it’s second year but is a great success, not only by our standards, but also the standards of the participants. We have been steadily receiving nothing but positive feedback. Renee Bade, as chairman of the event, did a tremendous job and the majority of our Sertoma membership participated freely and with vigor. I hesitate to mention any additional names because so many gave so much, and I would not want to leave anyone out. The bottom line is, we were able to award $10,000.00 worth of scholarships to our area school students because of this single event. The other big plus is that a new event of this type has a positive and regenerative effect on the whole club. It also brings in new members.

With June approaching, the current officers are starting to tie up loose ends and preparing to turn the reins to the newly elected. The new officers for the year are:

The business was light at the May 25 meeting. It was announced that the flags would be going out on Memorial Day. As a reminder, they are now housed in the new location behind the Palace Theater. The Caring Place is having an event at the Reunion Ranch form 7 to 11 on June 2nd. Highway Cleanup is tenatively scheduled for late June.
