News:

It has been a great month for Sertoma in Georgetown. We inducted 9 new members this month:

Paul Hooper, Ruth Fothergill, General Neasman, Patty Riggs, Doug Riggs, Jim Thompson, Patricia Cook, and Mike Cook. Every one of these new members hit the ground running they are all going to be a great asset to the club.

We are scheduled for another highway cleanup on April 1st. Ellen reports that the roadside doesn’t look too bad and that she and Russ are planning another great breakfast afterward. Everyone that has ever been to one of these breakfasts knows that it is a great social event. The highway cleanup is a small price to pay.

Wolf Ranch has agreed to allow us to solicit individual businesses for our flag route. Hopefully this will lead to some new contracts.Alycia reports that the Serteen’s Special Olympics event was a huge success. This is such a great concept, and thanks to the Serteen’s for making it great.

The Georgetown Community Clinic is in need of an EROSCAN Otoacustic Emissions Test System and Jim Wilson is in the negotiating process. It is too late for a Sertoma Foundation grant this year but he is getting it in for next year right now. Eventually I am sure we will get something done. We all owe Jim a debt of gratitude for the work he does in this area. Speech and Hearing are the brand identity for Sertoma and Jim is always on the front lines.

Applebees restaurant is doing a special promotion for our bike ride. They have put out a coupon and they will donate a percentage of each meal to the bike ride for everyone that takes the coupon to their restaurant and has dinner on April 12. President David Hooper will be bringing more coupons to our club meeting on April 6.

The garage sale not only was a lot of fun, we netted $933.00. This money is earmarked for our operating expenses and allows us to do many things. Thanks to everyone who participated.

On March 25, several members got together and moved all of the flags and their flag closets from D and L Printing to the Palace storage building. This was no easy task and required a couple of heavy duty trailers and a lot of muscle. We needed to move because Lee Gregory is moving to a new and much smaller location. Thanks to Lee for all of the years we have taken up his space.

It is time to elect the new club officers for the 2006-2007 year. A ballot will be agreed on at the board meeting on April 5 and election will take place on April 6. If you are interested and are not on the ballot, let someone know and they will gladly nominate you.

The big news for April is the regional convention in Lafayette, La. As of this writing we have at least 8 members from Georgetown attending. We will be electing a new district governor at this convention and Georgetown member Jim Thompson is running for the office. If at all possible you should consider going to this convention. It is a sure bet to be a great time. The people in Lafayette is some of the most cordial in the country and they will definitely show everyone a great time.
