General Clubs News and Information:

A couple of members had medical situations this month. Alan Munson had eye surgery and Nancy Biggs had a medical procedure done. Both have recovered nicely and a back amongst us.

The final totals for the Red Poppy bike rally are in and it looks like our club netted just under $8000.00. Considering the weather on the night before and in the early morning hours of the big day, it was a huge success. To single out a few members that really gave their all on this one we would need to mention Renee Bade and Pat and Mike Cook. They certainly weren’t the only ones but they were a driving force. There was a big appreciation party at Duke’s bbq in the days following the rally. Not only Sertoman’s, but our fellow contributors from the Cyclepaths and the Sun City club were on hand to celebrate and congratulate.

The flags went out again on June 14th for flag day. Roger Taylor puts a lot of effort into that program and we all need to give him a little help and encouragement when we can.

The July 4th committee has been working feverishly to tie up all of the last minute details. Thing are coming together nicely and it should be another great day. This event is largely a gift from Sertoma to the community and it is well received.

On Saturday, June 3rd the Heart of Texas District hosted a tailgate party at the Dell Diamond which included a great bbq meal catered by Pokey Joe’s and liquid refreshments followed by a great Round Rock Express triple A ball game. The Express had a promotional going on in which they gave away several used cars. The proud recipient of a 1988 Dodge Dynasty was our own club president David Hooper. He got it home ok but we haven’t heard any reports since on it’s condition.

Our club got an article in the Williamson County Sun entitled “Tips to Protect Children’s Hearing”. The club also assisted a client of the Caring Place in working with the SHARP program at the University of Texas. The client had severe hearing loss and received hearing aids through the program.

Our club is now a 100% foundation member and we are eligible for maximum matching grants from the International Foundation. We are currently working with a local clinic to obtain audiology equipment.

The new officers for the 2006/2007 Sertoma year were installed by the district governor at the club meeting on June 29. The awards banquet will be held at a later date.
