As we move into the new year, or the second half of the Sertoma fiscal year, many things are on the agenda. Russell Dutkiewicz is working hard on the membership dinner. If you haven't given him a list of names of potential members, please get with him as soon as possible. This thing has the potential to do this community a lot of good.
The flag program, under the watchful eye of Roger Taylor, is doing very well and the money is starting to come in for the new year. While we are on the subject of fund raisers, the new sponsorship package that Mike Cook and several others have been working on has received approval from the board and will go to final print within the next few days. This is by far the best attempt this club has ever made to get the word out on what we do and how we are funded. It should make soliciting funds a lot easier.
Work is already being done on the 4th of July celebration and the bike rally. Martha and David Hooper have completed a questionaire for the city on the 4th of July celebration and feedback from the city has been positive.
New fund raisers for 2007 are in the planning stage. We are discussing a pancake breakfast at Applebee's, and a catfish dinner. This type of event in not terribly labor intensive and it does wonders in terms of community awareness of Sertoma. They also bring in some much needed funds for our sponsorships.
On the subject of community awareness, pictures of the presentation of the Euroscan devices to the local Lone Star Circle of Care organization have been submitted to the Williamson County Sun. These pictures include both the Georgetown and Round Rock morning clubs and their contributions to this venerable organization. A matching grant request has been submitted to Sertoma International by both Georgetown and Round Rock Morning clubs. The intent here is to purchase a third Euroscan device for the Granger location of Lone Star Circle of Care. Grant approvals are to be announced early this year.
The National Heritage essay contest is over and Bill marsh reports that there were seven entries this year. I haven't heard who the winners were but I will report on it as soon as I get the information.
The final totals are in on the Texas Mission of Mercy. We screened 183 persons with 59 identified hearing issues. The data on the 59 people has been organized and Jim Wilson is working with a committee of professionals including several audiologists and the UT Speech and Hearing Center to review the list and schedule follow-up corrective actions. The Georgetown club volunteered 169 hours of our time to make this event a huge success.
That's the news, see you at the meetings.
